Last Sunday we spontaneously took a little walk in the surrounding area. Outside our condo building you can already see the “old” Philippines again – with its dirt and poverty.

Hi, I’m Ulf—born in 1970, raised in Westphalia, a trained photographer, and a former hotelier. Today I live with my husband in Manila, Philippines. Multicultural, multi-culinary, and usually in pretty good spirits.

In 2022, we left Germany—for good reason: racism was getting louder, and resistance against it, unfortunately, quieter. As a gay, bi-national couple, it was clear to us: time to pack up and start a new chapter. And that doesn’t feel so bad here in Asia.

In this blog, we write about our everyday life in exile—between sultry tropical heat and cool white wine, banana leaves and Netflix nights. Sometimes there are little anecdotes, sometimes big thoughts, and in between, photos I capture with my Leica Q3.
